In her daily blog post, Godspace, Christine Sine provided information about the prayer vigil tonight. Organized by Bread for the World and Washington clergy, the purpose of the vigil is to insure that poor people will be protected in budget talks.
Prayers related to the budget crisis are included in Sine's "Light for the Journey" on her Facebook page, www.facebook.com/pages/Light-for-the-journey/143510882359774.

All Things are Possible
May we be reminded that while we are limited in our capacity and our finitude, in you all things are possible. So we will fix our eyes on you, on what you say is possible, on your vision for the world and your perspective on creation. Give us the courage to hope. Amen.

Prayer of the Day: Those in Need of Jobs
God our stronghold, we pray for those in our families, communities, parishes, and around our nation and world without jobs or at risk of losing their jobs. Relieve them of their anxieties and keep them confident of your steadfast presence in times of trial. May their communities accompany them and support them. (adapted)

5 Great Part-Time Jobs for Retirees (and others)
Kerry Hannon's article, "5 Great Part-Time Jobs for Retirees" focuses on workers who are 65, the standard age for retirement and still want to work. They may need the money or, like 64-year-old Sue Walker, don't want to stop working entirely. On the other hand, many workers are forced into early, or involuntary retirement when they lose their jobs.
Kerry Hannon lists five part-time jobs for retirees, but these are good jobs for the unemployed. While they might pay alot, these jobs can be a short-term solution to help pay the bills and, most important, also help one's morale during the job search.
The 5 great part-time jobs are:
1. Librarian Assistant/Aide
2. Bookkeeper
3. Personal and Home-Care Aide
4. Handyman
5. Medical Assistant
Others
aarp.org provides a lot of useful information on a variety of topics. You don't have to be retired or 50-plus to take advantage of the web site or its job fairs. In fact, quite a few younger adults, including five men, came to an AARP job fair for women I attended.
